The foundation is Hendrix’s early fuzz sound into a loud Marshall-style stack, while Roger Mayer’s Octavia supplies the octave-rich solo and outro overdubs. Mayer recalled that Hendrix used a borrowed Telecaster for the Octavia overdub after damaging his Stratocaster, although the exact guitar used for every underlying take remains uncertain.
