Frusciante borrowed engineer Jim Scott’s 1966 Fender Jaguar for the recording and ran it through the Californication-era Marshall JTM45 and Super Bass combination. No reliable evidence identifies a distortion pedal or exact control positions for the master, so the change from the heavy intro to the muted verse is recreated through guitar volume, picking and amp response.
