Ray Toro recorded most of The Black Parade with his Les Paul fitted with Seymour Duncan Phat Cat pickups into Rob Cavallo’s 100-watt Marshall JCM800, layering guitars with a Brian May-inspired orchestral approach. The song’s fanfare and heavy passages use stacked parts rather than one enormous gain setting; exact knob and mic positions were not published, so settings are approximated from the documented studio rig.
